Goliath
OPENED: April 2006 You'll see Goliath before you enter the park. No, really. You will. There's no missing the coaster that veers out of the park, hits a few hills, flies through a double helix and camelbacks its way back into the park. One of Six Flags' favorite ad copies asserted that Goliath was so big "it couldn't fit inside the park." They weren't just whistling Dixie. With theming intended to evoke memories of 50s monster movies (you know the ones - close up shots of gila monsters are edited in with screaming people and we're supposed to believe that the gila monster is a hideous monster created by the dreaded A-bomb), Goliath is the only "hypercoaster" within several hundred miles. If you're within those several hundred miles, you need to go ride it, as it's truly a great coaster. The initial drop packs one helluva punch, but then this coaster catches you off guard with an EVEN LONGER second drop (granted, we're only talking about five feet here, but on most coasters the first hill is the big one, so this is pretty impressive in and of itself). Every hill on Goliath is equipped with airtime. Unless you had to wedge yourself into the seat, I assure you your butt will be floating on these hills. After the double helix, there's at least one hill where it honestly feels like the coaster is trying to kick you off. The restraints work fine, so don't freak out Francis. Due to the massive popularity of this ride, expect lines to remain long for quite some time. Plan to hit Goliath immediately upon opening if you aren't going to be using the Flash Pass.
