Georgia Cyclone OPENED: March 1990 The original Coney Island Cyclone is a National Historic Landmark and is considered the most famous roller coaster in the world. In the late 80s, Six Flags decided to build their own versions of the classic, and the Georgia Cyclone is generally considered the most successful recreation. Understand right now: a recreation of a 1927 design is automatically disqualified from being called a “smooth ride.” The Georgia Cyclone is a brutal beast, and you need to treat it with respect. First off, just look at it. It's a really lovely looking coaster (especially when viewed from atop adjacent Acrophobia). The layout is strong, providing lots of drops with lots of airtime. This thing gets some good speed, as well. So what's not to like about this coaster? The trains. Sweet monkey Jesus, can someone do something about the trains? There is NO padding here. None. Everytime you get a pop of airtime, you can look forward to the joy of feeling your back crashing into the seat. There is no excuse for this. This is a great coaster that's crippled by terrible trains. Until the powers that be recognize this, I strongly recommend sitting the Cyclone out. Well, unless you're a credit whore. You'd ride the stupid thing even if the safety belts were made out of fishing line.
