Scooby Doo's Haunted Mansion
What? A dark ride?
Scooby Doo's Haunted Mansion is an interactive ride created by the Sally Corporation. Riders board four person "Mystery Machines" and ride through the show building with "frightlights." Throughout the mansion are targets that help riders accumulate points (points are logged via an onboard display).
While it's difficult to not compare this to rides like Buzz Lightyear and Men in Black, Scooby Doo's Haunted Mansion is nevertheless a pretty fun little ride. The lines for it can get massive, however, as there are only eight "mystery machines" in rotation.
Of the three versions of this ride I've been on, I like
Carowinds' the least. The reason for this is theming. And the
biggest problem is that the folks at Sally had to make this attraction fit into
a building that just plain wasn't big enough for it. As a result, the
entire queue is outside, and there's just no room for anything that creates a
more immersive environment. That's a shame, because the ride is fun but
could have been much more substantial.
