Carolina Cyclone
Opened: March 1980 Carowinds entered the record books briefly when the Cyclone opened. Featuring two back-to-back vertical loops and two back-to-back corkscrews, this was the first coaster in the world to have 4 inversions. After completing the double corkscrew, the train finishes out its circuit by completing a 450 degree upward helix.
Let's not mince words here. The Carolina Cyclone is
an old coaster. Remember, this thing debuted a scant four years after
the first looping coaster was unveiled. A lot of parks have taken
their old Arrow loopers and dumped them (looking at you, Busch Gardens
Tampa!), but Carowinds hasn't succumbed to that way of thinking yet.
Is it smooth? Well, no, and it probably never was. But it's
still a fun ride that rarely accumulates too much of a line. No reason
not to give it a ride or two.
