Christmas at Sea World Orlando
December 2008

When we were at Dollywood the weekend before, the wait for their version
of the Polar Express was over two hours.  Ours was two minutes.

These guys were pretty good.  They were doing Christmas songs.

Only two people on the ride!

The ride, incidentally, was really cute. I've never seen the movie it's based on, but they did
a really good job making it a family friendly ride.  I don't know if it's the same thing they have
at Dollywood, since I keep hearing about there being piped in smells during the hot
chocolate scene, but there was nothing in this that would set such an effect up.

Sea World really went overboard converting the interior of Wild Arctic into
the Polar Express Experience.

This tunnel normally leads into the beluga whale display.

But now that area has been transformed into the North Pole.  The Christmas tree in this area
is actually much more impressive than the main tree near the park entrance.

They also have Santa Claus on hand for photo ops, but he didn't seem interested
in having me sit in his lap.

After you move past the Beluga Whale/North Pole area, the rest of the
exhibit is pretty normal.

The polar bear was doing his exercises.  They shine the dot, and he has to go
touch the dot with his nose or paw.  When he does it right, he gets a fish.

No Karen, you can't have one.

Okay, let me get on my soapbox.  Sea World has the lowest quantity of restaurants
that cater to vegetarians (yep, Karen's still off meat).  Cheese pizza at Voyagers was
a bland option, but we did manage to find fajitas at Mango Joes.

Pictured above, obviously, is the steak/chicken fajitas.

But they did offer vegetarian fajitas as well.  Both types were surprisingly tasty.

(by the way, I am aware that Mama's Kitchen has some vegetarian options as well.  This is
pretty useless information, however, when you're over by Shamu Stadium)

Meanwhile, in the Penguin Encounter exhibit, the puffins have a contest to see
who gets to drink from the fire hose.

The penguins are just chilling.

It's really telling when you're in a park with all this exciting animal life,
but a common bunny frolicking in the grass draws everyone's attention.

Rumors of the de-Anheuser Busching of the park appear to be, at this point, premature.

Parting shot - even the Clydesdales have that special Christmas spirit.

Next up - Disney Hollywood Studios!
