Mothman Museum

Point Pleasant, WV

This place is full o'stuff!

They also maintain maps of sighting took place. You can even report a sighting yourself.

The Mothman isn't isolated to West Virginia.  They have a map that shows all the places that have reported sightings.

Some folks believe that the area's weird happenings pre-date the Mothman by a few hundred years. Another explanation all begins with a dude named Chief Cornstalk.

His real name is Keigh-tugh-gua. Translated into English from Shawnee, it means "Cornstalk". If you want the whole story, click here. Here's the short version.

When the American Revolution began, the British tried to start trouble for the rebelling colonials by riling up the local native tribes. The most feared tribal leader was our pal Cornstalk here.

Chief Cornstalk

When Cornstalk got wind of what the British were doing, he went to the American settlers at a local fort and laid the truth on 'em: If the other tribes in the area side with the British and start attacking the settlers, he won't be able to keep his men from following suit.

After hearing this, the soldiers at the fort took him prisoner. Everything was copasetic until soldiers who had gone out deer hunting were found butchered in the forest. In response, a group a enraged soldiers broke into the Cornstalk's cell (where he was being held with is son and another unnamed tribesman) and killed everyone.

Chief Cornstalk's last words were said to be a curse upon the land and it's peoples. Is there any validity to the curse? Maybe, maybe not. No one can deny that weird things have happened in the area since his death.

So, there's the skinny on our time in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. If you haven't already, check out the PARKNG episode all about it.
