TPS Report

Geauga Lake

Geauga Lake was an Ohio tradition for over a century.  It started out as a trolley stop and
eventually made the completely logical jump to an amusement park.  There's a ton of
history here, a lot of it involving changes in management (Six Flags bought it for a while, Sea World
used to have a location there, Six Flags bought Sea World, Cedar Fair bought both parks... Like
I said, it's got a bucket of history).

We visited twice - early 2006 and late 2007.  These pictures jump back and forth
between the two visits.  I guess I could have made two entirely different TPS Reports
out of this, but let's be honest here.  This is the last Geauga Lake report I'll ever
do, so I may as well go balls out with it, right?

The entrance plaza is really quite nice looking.  It evokes a very strong Disneyesque vibe.

First thing we saw when we arrived in 2007 was this pleasant sign.
Little did we suspect that the sign for 2008 would need to say "As a
reminder: Geauga Lake has been removed from Geauga Lake and
Whitewater Kingdom."

Timewarp back to 2006 - here's X-Flight.  It was a standard issue Vekoma
flying dutchman.  One ride was quite enough.  It got yanked out and was
resurrected as Firehawk over at Kings Island.  It's still a standard issue
Vekoma flying dutchman.  One ride was still quite enough.

Steel Venom was originally a Superman-themed ride.  It was the first
suspended launching impulse shuttle coaster.  Surprisingly fun for such
a simple ride.

The park was almost obscenely dead, so I got some re-ride action on.
While I was riding, Karen met up with some fans.

Also over on this end of the park was a pretty basic go-kart track.  I've got nothing
against these upcharge attractions, but I really wish they'd go the extra mile and
design more intricate courses.  Why should I ride these go-karts when I can go
somewhere else and drive over cool multilevel courses?

Last attractions on this end were the Skyscraper observation tower (which
never seemed to be open) and Head Spin, an off-the-shelf Vekoma boomerang.

Boomerangs catch a lot of grief, and I can't say I entirely disagree with it.
Conceptually, they're a neat idea but in the long run they're only
like half a coaster.  Having this so close to Steel Venom is just too
many half-coasters in one place.

So if you're not that excited by a boomerang, why bother posting so
many pictures of it?

Carowinds - meet your brand spanking new rollercoaster for 2009.

Carolina Cobra - boring soon at a park near us.

This was actually my first boomerang, so I made sure to get plenty of
coverage of it.  Is that a dude or a chick in the background?
