Epcot International Food and Wine Festival 2008
Cities in Wonderland
The Mouse Catch is (cleverly enough) the place to go for
cheese.
You can choose the single, duo or trio plate of cheese. The cheeses
available were
an asiago pressato, manchego, or dorothea.

One cheese selection ($3.25)
Duo of cheese ($4.00)
Trio of cheese ($4.50)
They also had cheese and beverage pairings:
Asiago Pressato and Martini & Rossi Prosecco ($3.25)
Manchego and Marques de Caceres Roja Crianza ($3.50)
Dorothea and Heinekin Beer ($5.00)

Karen likey cheese.

Karen assures me she will never pose like this again.

Mexico City offers Chilaquiles ($4), Quesadilla con Chorizo
($3.75) and Capirotada ($3.50).
Just because I can spell it doesn't mean I know what the hell any of that is.
In the alcohol department, they offer:
L.A. Cetto Chardonnay ($3.75)
L.A. Cetto Petite Sirah ($3.75)
L.A. Cetto Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($4.75)
Dos Equis beer ($4.50), and
Cinnamon Rice Milk ($2.50)

Mexico City is, of course, located right next to the Mexican
temple.

Barcelona was right next to Mexico as well. They offered
some excellent chilled tomato
and garlic soup ($2.50), seared tuna loin with roasted red peppers ($4), and a
churro
with chocolate sauce ($2.75). In the wine department, how bout:
Bodega Don Olegario Albarino ($5.25)
Poema Cava Brut ($3.25)
Bodegas Julian Chivite Gran Fuedo Rose ($3.25)
Abadia Retuerta Seleccion Especial ($4)

Vienna busted out the beef goulash with bacon dumpling
($3.50), tafelspitz ($3.75),
buchteln ($2.50), and other stuff that made my spellcheck go nutty.
In the wining department, we got:
Leth Gruner Veltliner ($3.50)
Iby Zweigelt ($3.50)
and Leth Riesling ($3.75)

Shanghai has chicken sha cha ($3.50), pork pot stickers
($3.50), and caramel
ginger ice cream ($3.25).
Need a drinky? You can go for:
Dragon Hollow chardonnay ($3.50)
Tsing Tao beer ($5.75)
Green Tea Plum wine cooler ($5.95)
Mango Fu-Te-Jia slush ($7.50)
That slush, by the way, had melon liquer, vodka and rum in it. Drink
enough of those and
you'll no longer care that you can't pronounce what it is you're drinking.

China, still.

Yup, still China.

China's still looming in the background, but let's talk New
Delhi instead.
Samosa with Tamarind Sauce ($3.25), Red Curry Shrimp Over
Rice ($4), and a Mango Mousse ($1.75). To drink with that, how's about:
Sula Chenin Blanc ($2.75)
Kingfisher Premium Lager ($5.00), or
Sula Sauvignon Blanc ($3.25)

Since there's no meat in the samosa, Karen was happy to try it
out.
I was nervous. My only experience with tamarind is some really
nasty candy one of my co-workers brought back from Mexico.

Cape Town is the home of Durban Spiced Chicken with Coconut
milk-infused
Root Vegetables ($3.75), Babotie with Mango Chutney ($3.00), and a spice
cake with a chocolate sauce ($2.25). In the alkie department, we gots:
Fairview Pinotage ($2.75)
Goats do Roam The Godfather Red Blend ($3.00)
Fairview Sauvignon Blanc ($2.50), and
Fairview Goats do Roam White ($2.50)

Melbourne is one of the featured locales this year, which
means they get to have
a much larger set-up. They also have a somewhat deeper menu, including
Pepperberry Prawns on the Barbie with Sweet Potato Hash ($4.75),
Chilled Barramundi Fish with a Fennel Slaw ($4.50),
Grilled Lamb Chops with Carmelized Onion Jam and Pea Shoots ($5), and
Wattleseed Mousse ($2.75).
If you want to get pissed like a good Bruce, your options are:
Corralook Chardonnay ($3.50)
Green Point Shiraz ($4.00)
Yellowglen Pink ($2.50)
Coorlook Pinot Noir ($4.00)
or
Foster's Lager 12oz/22oz ($5/$11.50)

As if that wasn't enough Australia, there was a secondary wine
bar set up, too.
