TPS Report

Christmas in Epcot
Orlando, FL
December 2008

Approaching Germany, we found the Glaskunst was decorated.

Glaskunst.  That's a hard word to say without getting dirty looks.
Go try it on your mom, kids!

Germany is looking awful festive, and why shouldn't they?
Sales of the ShamWOW are up 45 percent this quarter.

Okay, we're going to have to point out this line.  Every night during the
Christmas season Epcot is home to the Candlelight Processional.

What this basically is is a retelling of the Christmas story by a celebrity narrator
accompanied by a 50 piece orchestra and a mass choir.

See that building in the far right?  That's the America Gardens Theatre, and it's an awful
long way away.  The people standing in line here probably will not be able to get into
the 5pm show.  They'll continue to stand in this line for the 6:45 show.

And who is the celebrity that has this kind of drawing power?

The chick from High School Musical.  No, not that one.  The other one.

(while it's entirely possible that this is par for the course with the crowds for
the Candlelight Processional, I'm not sure I'd be waiting in line for that one)

Here's more of Germany, but I already made the ShamWOW joke, so
I'm completely out of material.  I guess I can talk about how nice we are
to the Germans now, even though they bombed Pearl Harbor.

This is the stage where Helga would tell us about the first Christmas tree
and the first Nutcracker.  Helga's not here, though.  She must be in line
for the High School Musical chick.

Crossing the bridge into China, we spot one of the firework barges.

Told you it was crowded - have you ever seen this many people
for the Chinese acrobats?

This is the Monkey King.  The write up in the guide says he weaved a tall
tale with twists and turns celebrating Chinese New Year.

No thanks.  If I want to be lied to by the Chinese, I'll just (insert topical joke here)

(by the way, I meant to leave it like that.  I don't have the time to update this with
a topical joke every other month.  Make your own joke and move along)

Okay, does anyone else see a problem with this picture?

There's only one fu lion here.  Fu lions are supposed to come in pairs.

Here's a pair of fu lions displayed correctly.

It's an odd detail to have incorrect, unless the female lion in the first picture had been
temporarily moved.  Epcot, your feng shui is in jeopardy!

We're all familiar with the "hear no evil, say no evil, see no evil" monkeys.
What the hell is the fourth monkey here doing?

Line out the door for Maelstrom!  And every one of them will
sneak out the theatre before the informative Norway film is played.

(If I was in charge of the Year of a Million Dreams promotion, I'd select people
who stayed for the movie to win major prizes.  There'd be nights where the
Cinderella Castle Suite was empty if they did that)

Here we have Sigrid, telling us the story of the
mischievous Christmas Gnome, Julenissen.

Julenissen brought his boom stick, but he's still not terribly threatening.

Finishing out World Showcase, here's Los Tres Reyes Magos, or the
Three Magical Kings.  I believe it's (left to right) Dusty Bottoms, Lucky Day,
and of course Ned Nederlander.

I may be wrong about that.
