ACE Spring Fling at Six Flags Over Georgia
March 27, 2010

Still dragging ass from yesterday's jaunt to Carowinds for Intimidator Media Day,
our weariness exacerbated by two pitchers of margaritas, we arrived at the park
promptly at 8:00.  We told Josh we'd go with him at 7:30.  Oops.

Waitaminute.  Where's the rain?  Whose bright idea was it
to schedule Spring Fling on a gorgeous day?!?

There's the culprit. Looks like Robert finally got his crystal ball working
for this year's event (they're planned out a year in advance).

This is the first year they've tossed a continental breakfast at us.  I can't say enough
how thoughtful an addition this is - we're usually ravenous by the time anything in the
park opens up to serve food.

It was still a wee bit nippy, so the coasters weren't running yet.
To make up for it, the park had Monster Mansion up and running.

We missed Monster Mansion last year, so we were eager to see what was new.

Holy shit.
We weren't even through the first door and the difference was stunning.

Before the 2009 season, Six Flags went bonkers cleaning this attraction up.
All the characters were given new skins, the lighting was corrected, the backdrops
were cleaned up, and the audio system was completely redone.

The difference is amazing.  It's like an entirely new attraction.

Most of the same old characters are still in place, but they look brand new.
Eight new characters have also been added to the mansion.

The chinese lanterns (upper right) add a HUGE amount of character.
I can't stress enough how much of an upgrade this is.

For a fraction of what they'd spend on a new coaster, Six Flags Over Georgia
has got themselves an attraction that will pull folks in for years to come.

Just as long as they don't let it go back to looking like it did...we're watching you, guys!

Across from the attraction, they've opened up the Monstore.  A corner of the shop
is dedicated to some of the historical aspects of the attraction.

For example, there's a case with these mini-versions of the monsters.

More of the mini-monsters.

There's also signs up giving more information.

In case you needed the lyrics.

Now, the next sign is curious.  It looks like someone didn't quite
finish proofreading...

"MORE"

There's also some conceptual artwork on display.

Karen was reading the fun facts boards when she was surprised by a friend...

Okay, I was just holding a plush monster closer to the camera.

But wouldn't it be AWESOME if they had monster characters roaming the park?
