Austell, Georgia Opened in 1967, Six Flags Over Georgia was the second Six
Flags park in the chain (making Six Flags the first park chain with multiple
locations). Founded by Angus G. Wynne, this is one of the few parks that
was branded a "Six Flags" park from day one (all others were acquired by the
company after the fact). The "six flags" in this case refer to the flags of the United States, Georgia, Spain, Great Britain, France, and the Confederate States of America. Individual sections of the park share this thematic flair, although over the years some of the distinctions have been lost (there's a Mexican eatery located in the French section. Go figure). Six Flags Over Georgia is widely considered to be one of
the best parks in the chain. This view is clearly shared by management,
who listed it as one of the parks that should serve as an example to all the
rest.
